Overview
The Grange Lifecare Village sought to enhance the quality of life for its residents by providing an on-site gym that catered to their unique physical requirements. The village’s physiotherapists, osteopaths, and trainers emphasised the importance of accessible fitness facilities to support ongoing health, mobility, and rehabilitation. The goal was to design a safe, inviting, and versatile gym space that encouraged resident participation and met professional standards for therapeutic and fitness activities.
Approach
Through consultation with staff members, key considerations were identified:
- Accessibility: Equipment suitable for varying mobility levels and age-related needs.
- Versatility: A mix of cardio, strength, and rehabilitation tools to support diverse fitness and therapy goals.
- Safety and Comfort: Durable, user-friendly equipment with a welcoming gym environment.
Based on these insights, we proposed a tailored gym solution featuring:
- Commercial Cardio Equipment: a range of Spirit cardio equipment to provide both traditional and low-impact exercise options across a variety of machines.
- York Strength Equipment: easy to use benches and free weights, along with a practical and space-saving 4 station centrepiece multigym, to support strength training and mobility improvement.
- UFC Resistance Bands, Mats, and Accessories: flexible tools for physiotherapy, strength training and stretching, ensuring safe rehabilitation and fitness activities.
Implementation
The gym was installed in a dedicated, well-lit space within the retirement village, designed to feel open and inviting. We collaborated with the village’s staff to ensure proper equipment setup and provided training on safe usage for both residents and trainers.
Result
The new gym compliments The Grange Lifecare Villages position, where it is poised to become one of New Zealand’s premier Lifecare villages.
