The Hereford Residences injected new life into a previously unloved building, heralding a new era of luxury apartments in Auckland. 14 storeys of luxury apartments, 4 floors of car parking and 2 floors of office space combine urban, contemporary living with architectural prowess. The facilities leave nothing to be desired with a library, pool room, swimming pool and a fully equipped gymnasium .

Achieve originally partnered with the Hereford Residence in 2017 to create a bespoke gym space for the building’s residents to enjoy. After a successful fitout and positive feedback from residents, conversations began in mid 2021 to refresh the space – so we did!

Overview

The project was to update the equipment to the latest technology which offered a quieter and sleeker experience for residents, while still offering a fully functional gym. Having partnered with Achieve previously, The Hereford Residences knew the quality of equipment proposed would continue to match the high standard of their building and apartments. Once again, a custom floor plan was created taking into account current wants and needs in the layout suggestions.

Challenges

The Hereford Residences gymnasium is unsupervised so residents will be using the facility alone meaning the new equipment selection needed to be easy and safe to use while successfully catering for a wide age range of users. Continuing to keep noise to a minimum was also still key.

The installation process itself was again the biggest challenge, with the gym being on the 7th floor of the complex which required navigating the larger equipment items through small elevators and narrow doorways. To minimise disruption and create a smooth install process, most of the equipment was disassembled and transported in parts.

Solution

A new range of Spirit cardio equipment was selected for the gymnasium along with a mix of Spirit and York strength equipment. The inclusion of key easy to use Spirit selectorised strength machines added a further level of quality and versatility to the gymnasium.

Once again all the cardio equipment supplied by Achieve featured the same console on each machine ensuring ease of use for the residents. All strength equipment was chosen with safety first in mind.

Feedback indicated that the floor area for Pilates and Yoga classes as well as providing room for stretching was appreciated and needed to be maintained in the updated layout.

Continuing to ensure the quality and reliability of the equipment is paramount so the regular 6 monthly maintenance programme has been set out to encompass the new range of equipment installed.

Result

The Hereford Residences are extremely happy with the quality of the new equipment and finished layout of the gymnasium with positive feedback received from both residents and management.
